- WEEK 5 Mike G / Faribault, MN
We are a very diverse shop doing tooling and production machining. We currently have a variety of machining centers and a couple of lathes. We have found the Okuma vertical machines to be excellent machines and we hope to develop a new customer that will require a higher level of accuracy then we are currently able to provide with our lathes. I think an Okuma lathe would give us the opportunity to meet the new customers needs. The speed and accuracy would provide the competitive edge we will need.
- WEEK 4 Tyler S / Frederick, CO
We are a job shop and have just finished the prototype phase of our first product. After struggling over the last year with the economic downturn things are looking up. We will go into production in 3 weeks and another mill is exactly what we need to keep up with our current job shop work load. One of the two mills we have will be consumed full time by machining our product.
- WEEK 3 David C / Round Rock, TX
New technology would open our eyes to new opportunities.
- WEEK 2 Troy T / Ramsey, MN
A business that makes it though these tough times in our economy, will do so with the help of dependable machines and the technology they bring. Things like increasing capabilities, reducing cycle time and eliminating down time are required not desired.
- WEEK 1 Anderson L / Stowe, VT
Moscow Mills is a world-class R&D, engineering and manufacturing firm providing mechanical engineering services and high precision component production for the R&D, prototype and short run markets. The Moscow Mills team uses state of the art computer-aided design and manufacturing systems to drive its 3 axis, 5 axis and 7 axis equipment, with a focus on complex high tolerance 5 and 7 axis prismatic prototypes and components for the defense, medical, aerospace, and semiconductor and general industries. Customers include Suss Micro Tec, Goodrich Aerospace, and Pratt & Whitney. In 2008 and 2009, despite the economic downturn and the resulting pressure on margins, Moscow Mills laid the groundwork for its transformation from a contract manufacturing facility to a company driven by its intellectual property and technical expertise. Moscow Mills has embraced Okuma technology as a cornerstone of its strategy to enter into ultra high end prototyping and short run production. In 2008 Moscow mills added 2 Okuma Mu400Va 5 axis machines it also added a Multus B300W 7 axis Turn mill to its line up. These machines highlight Okuma amazing equipment and support. The combination of the thermal compensation, mechatronics and control result in an unbeatable combination for predictable results day after day week after week. With the recent purchases of this equipment and the resulting work pouring in the door as a result we need another Multus to keep up with demand! Unfortunate all our capitol is tied up in our 3 recent purchases which will slow us down in our ability to add additional equipment in the near future. Another Multus would allow us to keep up with the huge demand created by our investment in Okuma equipment to date.

As a job shop picking the right machine and accesories would save us time. That is what we sell, so that means more money to the bottom line. -

We bought the shop 3 years ago and we were beginning to evaluate equipment at the end of '08 that would allow us to be more competitive and grow the business. Since that time the economy has impacted us and our ability to invest in the business. -

We currently use a number of Okuma single spindle lathes and vertical/horizontal machining centers. For the most part we run these machines very hard - when business is up usually 24 hours a day to seven days a week. Our preventative maintenance does not exist. When something alarms out we go into action to find the cause. For as much as we abuse the equipment takes it always comes back to run our full steam ahead production requirements. We have good support from our Okuma supplier. This helps us recover from our mistakes. A few years ago I was looking at machining centers for [an automotive] job. Our Japanese Management insisted I buy [another brand] for the application. I told them for the same cost I would only buy Okumas because they are like the Sumo wrestler in their strength. -

right now an okuma lathe would help our production flow do to large volumes of new business we have been tasked to complete production needs with the 4 okuma lathes we currently own ,(we also have two okuma mills) the lathes are backed up and one more would make the juggling a non issue but of course do to the economy and cut backs we have not been in a position to purchase new machinery so two years of free use would put us back on track and who knows by than we may be able to afford it by than. -

There is really no other machine that could do more for our business than an Okuma LB4000EX. We would have more than paid for an L470 if we had been doing paying work with the L370 I was almost able to buy instead of rebuilding the "bargain" I bought (that has been repaired so frequently that the control and iron are practically all that is left of the original machine). Having spent countless hours of aggravation trying to run jobs on machines that just won't do the job, I know that an Okuma would bring not only increased revenue and opportunities but also the peace of mind of being able to meet the most demanding delivery commitments. We just did some intricate little parts that scared away every Swiss shop I showed them to on an old 2 axis lathe and knee mill. We know how to make machines do more than they are supposed to be able to do but we have also made parts that just could not be made on less than a best quality machine like Okuma. A person would have to experience that level of performance for themselves to appreciate what a machine like an LB4000EX can do. What would Okuma machines do for us? It is hard to put a dollar value on the ability to do the hardest work or on peace of mind. ? -

Before the economy took a severe turn for the worst, we were heavily considering adding a Turning center to our arsenal. We currently house 4 Okuma vertical mills that are very happy with. They keep performing day in and day out. Right now we do all of our turning on a single post Tool room lathe. It limits us in the work we can quote on. Having full turning capabilities would open us to new business opportunities. -

We currently own several Okuma lathes and an Okuma VMC. An additional Okuma machine would allow us to procure future business utilizing machine configuration(s) not currently in our shop, hopefully a HMC or a 5 axis multitasking lathe. We have had to turn away work due to the our lack of machines. It would also allow us to streamline some of our current processes by doing in one set-up what it now takes two, three, and sometimes four set-ups. Thank-You for your consideration. Dan M -

Dear Larry, I have 2 kids in college and my wife just quit her job. My company is struggling in this economy, but I think that a new Okuma mill would help me to enter into a new segment of the power generation business?? -

Another Okuma CNC lathe would allow us to expand and meet tighter delivery times. We currently have a 1989 LB15, it's a fantastic machine. Our shop is a father/son operation, so multiple machine operation is required frequently. Right now, this means the CNC mill and lathe, but a second lathe would allow for simultaneous turning on two machines. This would move us to the next level of growth and development. thank you for the opportunity. -

Our success has been realized BECAUSE of our current complement of Okuma CNC machines. Without an additional Okuma CNC, our future growth will be in jeopardy. As a manufacturer of Naval Nuclear propulsion components, an additional Okuma (as have our current Okuma's) would enable Fluidyne Corp. to continue to meet the critical quality requirements of our primary customer, the United States Navy, in an increasingly competitive environment. We consider Okuma a silent, irreplaceable partner in our success. That's how an Okuma would help my business. -

Allied Machine & Design, Inc. specializes in turning large parts that include milling, drilling and taping. Our large turning work is now being done on three manual VTLs, using form tools and rotating the ram to cut angles and tapers. The second operation drilling and taping is done on a VMC with additional setup time. With an Okuma VTR-160A, the turning, drilling and tapping operations would all be done on one setup. The outstanding thermo stability simplifies holding tolerances of /- .001 on the large diameter parts, improving product quality. All these features add up to a tremendous decrease of machining times which in turn will allow shorter lead times to increase dollar value output per hour. Another benefit is the prestige of having a new Okuma Machine on our shop floor. Northeast Pennsylvania is becoming the new natural gas drilling center of the US and an Okuma VTL-160A on our shop floor would give us a major selling point to gain access to the large complex turning work we see coming to our area. -

The job shop machining business is being driven by the need to make parts of higher complexity, in smaller lot sizes and with quicker turn times. Our ability to both survive and grow as a company rides on our choices of equipment that will let us program and set up faster, complete complex parts in one operation, be reliable day in and day out and be supported with service far into the future. The Okuma lathes fill all of those requirements and more. An Okuma lathe would give us another step up the ladder in manufacturing prowess that we constantly require to stay ahead of our customers demands. As a small company, a single state of the art machine can have a huge impact on our ability to become more productive with our existing business and simultaneously allow us to gain more from existing customers and court new opportunities. Okuma answers the call on all points and provides the solutions. -

When Bulldog Machine Inc started out as a small scale mom and pop shop about 15 years ago the company was built on the philosophy of working lean and mean. This attitude as brought us through thick and thin times but because of the belief that you do anything for the customer we have stood out from our competition. As we grew in size and strength, the machines we purchased also became bigger and bigger. The problem is that as soon as we get a larger machine, the size of the parts we machine seem to get bigger too. We can now handle steel blocks over 10,000 pounds in our bridge mill. All the side work needed on these parts is still done on an older manual horizontal boring mill. By offering CNC horizontal services, Bulldog Machine could broaden the scope of work we quote and also revamp many of our procedures to a more effective and accurate process. Please consider Bulldog Machine, a growing and vibrant company doing our best to excel in this testing environment. -
